Sorry - No Free Places

Author: Micheal

Travelers have been facing the problem of the missing seat for a long time .In other words , there are no free places on the flight , a flight which the passengers have already reserved before . Because Airline companies have been accepting a larger number of booking and reservations than the exact number of places available at that moment on the flight .

The great mess lies in the fact that everyone actually purchased the tickets and arrived on time at the airport for the flight may not find his/her seat on the flight .

The main reason of such an approach most of the airline companies have adopted is that some passengers resign from flights without canceling the booking made or being purchased. As a result , those flights which are not full lead to the airlines to face a lot of losses .Thus they sought refuge in overbooking in order to minimize such losses .

In 1991 there was an end for such an improper treatment . The European Union implemented regulations for compensation to be to the passengers who could not get on a flight due to over booking but the regulations were related to regular flights only and did not cover chartered flights .

However , the compensation value depended on the distant of the flight and the maximum compensation was EUR 300 .In 2002 the amount of compensation increased upon the request of the Commission .

Finally , the European Parliament approving the final version of the new regulations which stated that the compensation should also be payable in respect of chartered flights . In the past ,the amount of compensation would depend on the distance the flight covered. For flights covering less than1500 km, compensation would be EUR 250, between 1500 and 3500 km ¡V EUR 400, and for longer flights ¡V EUR 600.
