New On-Demand Jet Charter Service Available to Minnesota's JetDuluth Author: CAWilson
A new charter aviation company, Duluth-based JetDuluth, is now providing on-demand jet charter service for businesses and individuals to Ely, Tower, Cook and other northeastern Minnesota airports.
Chief pilot Matt Ferrari says, “We will fly anyone, but our typical market is made up of businesses who have several people traveling to one or several locations.”
Ely city officials celebrated this announcement.
“This is a wonderful thing--if this demonstrates there is a charter market in Ely, then maybe a (commercial) carrier may pick it up on a regular basis,” Ely City Councilor Paul Kess stated.
Last summer, Ely lost its regular commercial air service when Northwest Airlines eliminated flights to smaller airports in an effort to cut operating costs, prompting council member Dan Przybylski to encourage local community businesses who readily plan to bring more activity to the airport.
Because the cost of a jet charter is per flight rather than per seat, it remains the same regardless of the number of passengers, advised pilot Matt Ferrari, explaining that for instance, a flight from Ely to St. Paul would cost $1,600, shared by as many as eight passengers in the small jet aircraft the company flies.
Ferrari went on to add, “We’re not competing with Mesaba Airlines, and if you wanted to fly from Duluth to Chicago, you probably should go with a commercial airline.”
JetDuluth is probably your best bet if your flying needs include taking off from or landing at any of Minnesota’s more than 100 smaller airports, such as those in Ely, Tower, Cook and other communities.
“We are an on-demand jet charter service, so we accommodate your schedule. You don’t have to accommodate ours--we have no scheduled service,” an enthused Ferrari went on to say.
JetDuluth, unlike like most other charter operations who tend to rely on louder and slower turboprop aircraft, uses fast and quiet Cessna Citation II jets.
The experience, Ferrari says, is “better-than-first-class seating.”
Matt Ferrari came to JetDuluth after flying Boeing 727s for a commercial airline in the United States, as well as on international flights.
